Maziar is a world-leading expert, research leader and innovator in the telecommunication, wireless and mobile sectors. His expertise includes unlicensed (Wi-Fi, IoT, UWB), licensed (4G, 5G, 6G), spectrum sharing and satellite and space, communication technologies. He has a deep and up-to-date understanding of the global landscape and trends in industry standardisation and spectrum regulations, research, and innovation in the telecommunications sector.
Maziar has extensive experience in advocating for new communication technologies and standards, underpinned by in-depth research and quantitative analysis. By leading (and chairing) large research consortia, standards and regulatory committees and working groups and working closely with the research community, industry, regulators and policy makers, Maziar has successfully built consensus and ecosystems around new technologies.
Maziar is a sought-after speaker at industry events and academic conferences.
He began his career in academia at Imperial College and subsequently Queen Mary College, London, before working in a research capacity at BT (British Telecom) and Samsung. He is currently Dean and Professor of Telecommunications at the University of Sussex, UK.
He holds a Doctorate in Theoretical and Computational Physics from the University of Nijmegen (The Netherlands) and a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands).
